Rana Foroohar is Global Business Columnist and Global Economic Analyst at CNN, covering the intersection of business, economics, politics, and foreign affairs. She has written several books on economics and technology.
Rana Foroohar is known for her work as a commentator and associate editor for the Financial Times. Foroohar also works as an analyst for CNN. In both positions, she works at the crossroads between business, economics and both national and international politics.
Foroohar has written several books dealing with the same subjects. In 2016, she published her first book Makers and Takers: The Rise of Finance and the Fall of American Business which takes a critical look at the US economy, and examines why large parts of the American population believe that the economy only benefits a privileged elite. The book was shortlisted for the 2016 McKinsey Book of the Year Award, and the New York Times believes it provides a good explanation as to why the American economy "is leaving too many behind". She has also written Homecoming: The Path to Prosperity in a Post-Global World, which takes a critical look at globalisation and its consequences.
Forohaar graduated in English literature from Barnard College in New York. Among other things, she has worked as a correspondent for Newsweek in Europe and the Middle East and for Time magazine. She has won the Peter Weitz prize for transatlantic reporting and received awards and fellowships from John Hopkins University in Washington, amongst others.
